Asalamo Alykum,

Much as I condemn the shooting of Malala Yousafzai, I wish to point out that she was not shot just because she was trying to get education. There were so many others doing the same.

Since the shooting, I am repeatedly reading and hearing this phrase in the news, especially international news outlets, that, ‘Malala, a fourteen year-old girl, was brutally shot by the Taliban simply because she trying to get education…’

This statement is a journalistic, either error or deception.

She was not shot simply because was trying to get education. She was shot because she had been making anti-Islam statements like ‘veiling reminds me of the stone-ages’, ‘beard reminds me of Pharoah’ and so on. She was doing so on international forums as well.

Please condemn the shooting, but in the right perspective for journalism is a sacred trust.

Wsalam,
